Our Origins

After the murder of George Floyd in 2020, a small interfaith group organized by The School for Contemplative Living began meeting weekly for contemplative prayer and anti-racism studies.

In 2024, we became inspired by the Justice League of Greater Lansing Michigan, which:

  • Publicly acknowledged the harms done to Black Americans beginning with slavery in 1619 through the Jim Crow era to the present

  • Organized a Community Endowment Fund  to which white churches contributed Reparations funds

This model of white churches joining together to contribute funding, rather than each church setting up its individual Reparation program inspired us.

Repair the Breach NOLA Financial Process

Where are donations stored?

Your gifts are placed in a dedicated endowment fund at the St. Charles Center for Faith + Action. This endowment fund ensures that Repair the Breach NOLA can grow and continue into the future while making annual disbursements.

How are the funds distributed?

  • The Financial Committee of RTB NOLA will determine the scope of annual distributions and awardees.

  • The annual distributions are currently earmarked for education and job training scholarships.

  • As the endowment fund grows, additional distributions may be awarded.
